SUMMARY:Protest to remove the data centre zoning at Jigginstown\, Naas\, Co
 unty Kildare
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a protest outside Áras Chill Dara\, John Devoy Roa
 d\, Naas\, Co. Kildare\, W91 X77F on September 28th at 1.30pm. This is the
day Kildare Councillors will be voting to rezone the Naas P2 Data Centre\
, so a good show of support from the community would be much appreciated!\
n\nTéigh chuig agóid os comhair Áras Chill Dara\, Luain an 28 meán fó
mhair ag 1.30i.n - Ar an lá beidh na comhairleoirí ag vótáil chun glac
adh le P2 a athzónáil nó chun í a fhágáil mar atá. Bheimís buíoch
más feidir libh teacht agus tacú linn!\n\nDID YOU KNOW?\n\n\n\nLand bes
ide homes in Naas\, Co. Kildare is zoned exclusively for hyperscale Data C
entres.\nTwo areas near Jigginstown and the M7 are zoned “P - Data Centr
e Only” in the Naas Local Area Plan (shown in purple below).\n\nThe M7 B
usiness Park site already has planning permission - granted by Kildare Cou
nty Council and now under appeal to An Coimisiún Pleanála. The Jigginsto
wn site\, which backs directly onto Primrose Garden\, has no planning appl
ication yet.\n\nOnce an application is lodged\, it becomes more difficult
to stop - that’s the lesson from the M7 site. Do you want to live this c
lose to a data centre?\n\n\nPurple outlines = zoned exclusively for data c
entres.\nWATER\n\n\nWe’re currently living under a nationwide hosepipe b
an and data centres are exempt from it. As commercial users\, they can kee
p using water throughout.\n\nData centres nationally have used over 1.7 bi
llion litres of public water since 2024\, and Uisce Éireann itself admits
it can’t fully explain its own figures.\n\n\n CLOSE TO WHERE WE LIVE\n\
n\nThis land is next to homes\, schools and horse studs. The Jigginstown s
ite alone is over 7 times the area of Croke Park.\n\nEven with mitigation\
, developments this size bring 24-hour noise\, lighting and years of heavy
  construction traffic.\n\n\n ELECTRICITY\n\n\nData centres are already 21%
of Ireland’s electricity. More data centres mean more pressure on the g
rid\, more gas-fired backup power\, and higher costs for all of us as bill
payers and taxpayers.\n\n\n OUR ENVIRONMENT\n\n\nIreland’s climate commi
tments have changed significantly since 2021 – grid capacity\, water res
ilience and our carbon budgets are all under far more pressure now. If Ire
land misses its EU climate targets\, taxpayers pay the fines.\n\n\n\n\n\n1
064 Petitions Signed so Far\n\n\nWhat we're asking our councillors to do:\
n\n\n Begin the process of removing the Data Centre zoning at Jigginstown
now – before any planning application is submitted.\n Commit to ending
the future zoning of land specifically for dedicated Data Centre developm
ent in Kildare local area plans.\n Support a moratorium on anymore data c
entres development in Kildare until the cumltaive impact on our communitie
s\, infrastructure\, environment and energy capacity has been properly ass
 essed.\n\nPetition - Data Center Awareness Kildare\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
