Do I need to be “perfectly sustainable” to get involved?

Not at all. This platform is about progress, not perfection. Small shared actions matter, and everyone starts somewhere.

Yes — suitable ethical businesses, organisations, projects, and community initiatives can create a listing for free.

What makes a business suitable for OEC?

We welcome businesses, organisations, projects, and initiatives based in Ireland that genuinely care about sustainability, ethical practices, community impact, environmental responsibility, circularity, wellbeing, biodiversity, or social good.

Are listings reviewed before going live?

Yes. Every listing is reviewed by our team before approval to help keep the platform safe, community-focused, and aligned with our values.

How do I add my business or project?

Simply create a free profile and submit your listing through the Add Your Listing page.

What is the Share section?

The Share section is a community-powered space for passing on pre-loved items, giving things away, swapping useful goods, and keeping perfectly good items in circulation.

Yes — you can search for pre-loved items nearby using location and category filters.

Is selling allowed?

No. The main focus is sharing, swapping, gifting, and community circularity. Everything posted should be offered freely.

Why is sharing pre-loved items important?

Sharing helps reduce waste, lower environmental impact, keep useful items in circulation longer, and build stronger local connections.

Get Together

What is the Get Together section?

Get Together is where people can discover local gatherings, workshops, socials, swaps, wellness events, hikes, and community meetups.

What kinds of events can be listed?

Community-focused, inclusive, sustainability-aligned, and wellbeing-centred events that help people connect, learn, share skills, support nature, or take positive action together.

Is it free to list an event?

Yes — suitable events can be listed completely free.

Are events reviewed before approval?

Yes — all events are reviewed by the OEC team before going live.

Can I RSVP through the platform?

Event listings include a direct RSVP or booking link such as Eventbrite or the organiser’s own website.

Can organisations and businesses host events?

Absolutely. Anyone with a suitable event is welcome to list it.

What types of events are not allowed?

We do not allow events that are harmful, unsafe, discriminatory, misleading, or unrelated to community, wellbeing, sustainability, or positive social impact.

Can commercial events be listed?

Yes — where there is clear community, educational, environmental, or wellbeing value.

Are children and families welcome at events?

Yes. Many events are family-friendly. Please check each listing for event-specific guidance.

Get Active helps people find meaningful ways to support communities and the planet through volunteering, climate action, environmental initiatives, campaigns, and local projects.

No — browsing is open to everyone. You only need an account to add a listing or event.

How do I get an account?

Simply click Register and complete the form.

Can I edit or delete my listings later?

Yes — you can update or remove listings anytime.

How do you keep the community safe?

Listings and submissions are reviewed before becoming visible on the site.

What kind of behaviour is expected?

We ask everyone to be respectful, kind, inclusive, and supportive of people, communities, and the environment.

Privacy & Safety

How much personal information do I need to share?

Only what’s necessary to use the platform. You control what appears publicly.

Can I hide my location?

Yes — especially in the Share section, you can choose whether your location is shown publicly.

Will my data be sold to advertisers?

No — never. OEC values privacy, transparency, and ethical digital practices.

What should I do if I see inappropriate content?

Tree Initiative & Donations

Why does OEC ask for donations?

Donations help keep the platform free while also supporting environmental restoration.

Where do donations go?

50% helps fund native Irish tree planting through Reforest Nation. 50% supports platform running costs.

How many trees have been planted so far?

You can check the current tree tally anytime on the Home Page.

Why focus on native Irish trees?

Native trees support biodiversity, wildlife habitats, ecosystem resilience, and Ireland’s natural woodlands.

Who is Reforest Nation?

Reforest Nation is our reforestation partner focused on planting diverse native Irish woodlands.

Can I donate even if I’m not a member?

Absolutely — anyone is welcome to support the collective.
