CLIMATE CAMP will run for 3 days from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August 2026
This year the camp will be based in Clare and will focus on the Shannon Basin – connecting the struggles against US military use of Shannon airport, LNG terminals, data centre expansion, mining and water extraction from the shannon.
We will focus on shared learning and building a movement that connects the themes of environmental justice, anti-militarism and anti-imperialism – and together act to build community and resistance.
We want this camp to be a collective effort, where attendees aren’t consumers but active participants in the running of the camp – helping create an atmosphere of solidarity and mutual care.
Holding that kind of space requires commitment and intentionality, and so the camp will be shaped slightly differently than the previous ones, namely:
- Individual registration is required to help us plan and organise the camp. The location and further details will be shared only with people who register.
- The workshops will build on each other – moving from inspiration, sharing skills/experience to planning for strategy and concrete actions in the region. We ask that everyone try to attend/stay for the full 3 days if they can. People living locally are welcome to drop in and out.
- We aim to have an alcohol and drug free camp. We will of course still have an evening programme of ceol agus craic. We want this to be an inclusive space for all and therefore this is a request/guidance and not something that needs to be enforced. We understand that what is inclusive for one person may exclude another, so we ask people to act responsibly and respectfully.
- No dogs – it is a farm with livestock and its own motley crew of dogs – it is not appropriate this time unfortunately.
- Camping will be organised into little groups (called Cumanns). We hope these cumanns will serve as a short term community for the people in it. They will work together and support with the delivery of tasks necessary for everyone to participate and enjoy the camp.
- Meitheal – There will be tasks for people/cummans to sign up to that make the camp run (kitchen, waste, parking, welcoming, care etc).
- Children – Children are more than welcome to the camp! Like in previous camps, a tent/space will be designated for children, young people and parents to self-organize. Depending on the capacity of participants, workshops may be delivered during the week-end.
As usual the following will be offered :
- 3 vegan meals a day (donation based) – note it is not a vegan kitchen and dairy will be optional
- Collective morning meeting to introduce and start the day
- Evening programme of activities including bonfire and sing-songs
- Keep an eye on the website for updates on what to bring etc
